About Your Council
The Community Councils represent the most local level of government in Wales. While they operate independently from other levels of local government, such as the County Borough Council, they maintain a close and collaborative working relationship with them.
Community Councillors
Your Community Councillors are deeply committed to the local community. They represent the interests of local residents, collaborate with them and other partners as needed, and play a key role in supporting the delivery of local services and facilities. They are also responsible for making decisions that shape the policies of their Council.
As unpaid volunteers, Community Councillors must adhere to the Local Government Code of Conduct and declare any financial interests. They are also required to disclose any personal or prejudicial interests in matters being discussed at community council meetings.
When a councillor has a prejudicial interest, they must declare it at the beginning of the meeting and should not participate in the discussion or decision-making process on that particular item. They may also need to leave the room while the matter is being debated.
Community councillors are entitled to remuneration.
